Many students give up their job searches before they start simply because they don’t know where to begin looking for jobs for graduate students. Keep an eye open for jobs for graduate students early in grad school, and make a list of good leads to follow after you graduate. Whether looking for nonacademic or academic jobs, they will have an easier time searching for jobs for graduate students if they know where to start looking. The following is a brief list of some places—both expected and unexpected—where students can begin their career searches for jobs for graduate students:

• Classified sections in newspapers

• Websites (government, private organizations, etc.)

• Chance meetings and other unexpected opportunities to network (a.k.a., “elevator conversations”)
